“OCULUS” PROJECT (NEW YORK): MANUAL UT ON DISSIMILAR AND AUSTENITIC WELDS
(2012-2014)

OCULUS the new metro station at the World Trade Centre of New York.
The complex structure designed by the Spanish architect Calatrava and realized by Italian company Cimolai Spa of Pordenone, provided several dissimilar welds (C-steel / Austenitic) of different configurations with thicknesses up to 90 mm.

Tecnocontrol has prepared all procedures for NDTs, in particular conventional UT procedures for the most critical welding of the structure, precisely a wide range of dissimilar welds. The procedures produced were first approved by IIS and then by the final customer (Port Authority of New York)

Tecnocontrol was the only NDT Services Company authorized by Port Authority to control these particularly critical welds on all the various structures built in Italy, it also intervened directly on site in New York for check in work of a dissimilar welding of large thickness, given the difficulties encountered by local technicians.
